An Unfolding Life
Four generations of my family have hiked these High Sierra trails beginning with my grandfather, and his sons - my uncle and father - in the 1930s as many of these trails were created by the California Conservation Corps. In fact, their first hike to the summit of Mount Whitney was in 1937.
Perhaps, the most famous member of these generations is Charles Albert "Al" King, my uncle, who introduced me to these trails. Uncle Al starred as John Muir in Lee Turkelsen's 1996 movie, "The John Muir Trail." And, again in 1999, Lee filmed "Al King on Mount Whitney; The 22nd Ascent," a visual account of that journey. The video is dedicated to all who have hiked with him in person or in spirit.
Over the past twelve years, I have eagerly planned adventures in the backcountry. Through my uncle's guidance, my companions and I, now, competently navigate the backcountry, enjoying its quietness and beauty, unspoiled by today's commercial ventures. But, I must admit, many adventures have coupled heartstopping experiences with breathtaking sites. Several of these sites, captured on film and digital over that period, are framed here for your enjoyment.
Hiking into the back country is not for the faint of heart as a hike to Bear Paw Meadow attests. While enjoying the comforts of this high Sierra campsite, there are many others carrying all on their backs through the most ruggedly beautiful areas of the world.
From these framed pictures, stunning moments from various hikes are displayed. The "Moon Rise at Bear Paw Meadow" to the spectacular three lakes, "Columbine, Cyclamen, and Spring Lakes at Black Rock Pass", from the "Twin Fawns @ Franklin Lakes" to "Little Claire Lake @ Sunrise" all capture the moment enjoyed by the hearty! And, surprisingly, picture moments change throughout the day as the sun and light change. Moments unfold as life does.
Many more pictures from panoramas of the lakes and passes, such as Franklin Pass, and canyons, such as Rattlesnake Canyon are shown on my website under the Sierra Pix page. All pictures are offered for sale by contacting me:
